LATEST NEWS REPORTS

6th October 2013

This morning saw the last club final of the season with the Mixed Singles League Final being fought out between last years winner Brian Abigail taking on Roger Crick. This was a very close game with some fantastic bowls on show and despite Roger taking a 18-7 lead after 14 ends the score was not a true reflection of the match. Fortunes then started to turn with Brian never giving up and his determination saw hom pick up 11 shots over the next 7 ends, dropping just 3 in that period. With the score 20-18 to Roger after 21 ends it was Roger that managed ot hold his nerve and take the final shot he needed to win the match.

The afternoon saw the much anticapted return of the corners competition with 25 bowlers turning up to take part in this fun event which sees all bowlers having 2 woods each to try and finish nearest to each corner of the green. This is the third year we have run the competition and although each bowler is playing for themselves the ladies have won the last 2 years so there was an even stronger determination from the men to win the most corners this year and they got off to a great start with Ian Ramsay taking the first corner. However the ladies then pulled it level with Ellen Livett winning the first "long" diagonal corner of the afternoon. The men then regained the lead through Roger Crick however the ladies then won the next 2 through Kim Challinor and Carol Crick. Roger Crick then bought the scores level again only for the ladies to then take the penultimate corner through Ann Ramsay. Going in to the last corner 1 win behind it was Dave Edwards, who had ended up the ditch with virtually every wood in the previous corners, that managed to ensure that the ladies didn't win for the third year in succession. As another enjoyable season comes to a close we look forward to an enjoyable winter social season and for some an enjoyable indoor season until the new season starts again next April.

Today saw the season ending match between our club captain and president with teams selected to represent each club official. As expected the club rivalries came to the fore and both teams were keen to perform well for their team. There was plenty of banter between teams and it was always going to be close game. With 4 rinks and 2 triples and the added bonus of a warm sunny afternoon everyone had an enjoyable afternoon. Looking for revenge from his previous years defaet Tom Holland was looking to even the scores and his team didn't let him down wining the match, narrowly, 112 to 107.
