29th June 2013

This afternoon we welcomed Chesham Broadway to Hazells although unfortunately our visitiors were only able to bring 3 triples with them so we provided them with 3 additional bowlers so that we could retain the 4 triples format for the afternoon.  With the sun shining at last the end result, an 87-44 win to Hazells, came second to the spirit the game was played in.  Carol Crick, Colin James & John Smith took the highest winning rink with a 28-8 win. The next time we meet Chesham Broadway is in the Quarter Final of the Bucks Plate on Sunday 14th July so lets hope for a repeat performance/result.

28th June 2013

This evening we travelled to Wendover for the first leg of this years Adams Cup and expectation was high to get off to a winning start and stand in captain Steve McNeill keen to bring a lead back to Hazells for the 2nd leg. Unfortunately we got off to a poor start being 35 -7 down after just 5 ends and our luck was not going to improve throughout the evening. Ann Ramsay, Pam Spokes, Don Russell & Thornley Bryant did their bit for the team winning 30-16 on their rink however the overall score was a 138-95 loss leaving us with a lot to do in the return leg to take Adams Cup

23rd June 2013

This afternoon we sent a team to Bletchley Town for a game of 5 triples. Unfortunately luck was not on our side and with a lack of skips available we had to call up some front end bowlers to cover in this position. Despite winning on 2 rinks we lost the overalls match 98-65.

Nina Lane, Pauline Hobson & Brian Abigail won 19-16

Yvonne Abigail, Colin Crosby, Nick Griffiths won 16-13

Graham Matthews, Maureen Warwick & Norman Bonham lost 25-8

Kate Griffiths, Malcolm Hobson & Andrew MacKenzie lost 24-5

Sue Smith, Ann Ramsay & Thornley Bryant lost 20-17

22nd June 2013

This afternoon we left the pouring rain of Aylesbury to travel to Milton Keynes for our match with Bradwell Bowls Club. This was a close fought game with Hazells managing to come out on top by just 3 shots

Andrew MacKenzie, Len Tuffs & Carol Crick - Lost 14-9

Ann RAmsay, Graham Matthews & John Smith - Won 19-9

Matthew Crick, Rod Bacon & Jan Moores - Highest winning rink - 28-11

Margaret Matthews, Dave Edwards & Roger Crick - Lost 19-14

Colin James, Denise Boult & Lionel Cheshire - lost 21-7

15th June 2013

This afternoon the rain followed us once again to Aston Clinton, a game regularly hampered by the weather. Despite the conditions Hazells managed to achieve a comfortable 103 - 79 win on a challenging green. Highest winning rink for Hazells went to Nina Lane, Andrew MacKenzie & Thornley Bryant winning 26 - 9.

9th June 2013

This afternoons fixture with Bletchley St Martin was reduced from a 6 Rink match to a 5 Triples match at the request of our visitors. Unfortunately this meant that we had to ask 9 players to step down from the match and luck didn't favour those players who were selected to play. We had just 1 winning rink, Kate Griffiths, Rod Bacon & Don Russell winning 17-9 however the overall score saw Hazells lose 99-69

8th June 2013

This afternoon we had 5 triples venture out to Watlington. As usual were received a warm welcome and the green had been prepared to a high standard and was a pleasure to bowl on. Unfortunately the final result was a heavy defeat for Hazells, 102 - 60, however the game was played in the right spirit and everyone ejoyed their afternoon. We had 1 winning rink, Matthew Crick, Denise Boult & Peter Spokes so well done ot these 3 for ensuring it wasn't a complete whitewash. After the match we were treated to a performance from the Red Kites who were fed from the bowls green. For anyone that hasn't seen this before it is an amazing sight to have at least 30 of these magnificent birds swoop down for the food being thrown out for them.

6th June 2013

This evening we sent 12 bowlers to Chesham Broadway not knowing what format we were playing due to our hosts struggling to put out a team. When we arrived we found that they had 9 players so we ended up playing 3 rinks against their 3 triples. The evening provded to be entertaining with all players commenting on how fast the green was running and that it was almost like playing indoors. With many of our bowlers not having played indoors they struggled to find both their line and length, Although this was an enjoyable evening and despite our hosts deducting the agreed 25% of their score we still lost 57 - 37. Our closest match saw Colin James, Nina Lane, Matthew Crick & Colin Crosby lose 20-19.
