30th September 2018 – Hazells v Buckingham West End - Friendly – Home – Lost – 105-93

This afternoon saw our last Sunday friendly of the season and we welcomed Buckingham West End, looking to avenge the narrow defeat we suffered back in August at their green. Unfortunately this was not to be our afternoon as we only had 1 winning rink out the 6. Carol Chanell, Andrew MacKenzie & Gerry Moores controlled their game from the start and only lost 7 ends in a game they won 20-12. Ann Ramsay, Denzil Ashcroft & Roger Crick only won 1 of the 1st 8 ends in their game and despite a late comeback they lost 14-11. Carol Crick, Sid Brotherston & Pete Coyne took the early lead in their game however they lost 6 ends in a row, dropping 10 shots in the process, on their way to a 16-12 defeat. Anne Farmer, Rob Stanbury & Steve McNeill also had a nightmare start going 14-2 down after 6 ends however they then started to come back in to the game and by the 13th end they were 16-15 ahead. However they then dropped 6 shots over the next 3 ends and lost 21-19. Inger McNeill, Kim Challinor & David Logan played out a close game until the 12th end when they dropped a 7 to go 17-11 down and although they managed to get back to just 18-16 down they then dropped another 5 on the 16th end and lost 23-19. Rod Bacon, George Murdoch & Eddie Chanell also found themselves trying to play catch up as they were 8-3 down after 7 ends, however they never really got back in to the match and lost 19-12.

29th September 2018 – Hazells v Chalfont St Giles – Friendly – Home – Drew 104 - 104

This afternoon we welcomed Chalfont St Giles for this 6 triples friendly and I would like to thank all those of you that stepped in at last minute to ensure that the game could be played following several late drop outs from the team. Leila, Roger & Steve got off to a disappointing start, dropping 5 shots from the 1st 2 ends and despite getting 3 back the next end they then lost the next 5 ends to go 13-6 down and the afternoon didn’t improve much from there as they lost 22-11. Anne Farmer, Dave Wheeler & Ian Ramsay got off to a great start picking up a 6 on the 1st end and although the scores were back level just 2 ends later they then got back in front and kept their lead throughout, winning 20-16. Carol Crick, Sid Brotherston & David Logan played out a close game during which they took the lead after 3 ends and were then behind 2 ends later. They then picked up 2 shots on each of the next 3 ends to take a 9-6 lead and despite dropping a 5 in the 2nd half of the game they managed to hold on for a 22-16 win. Highest winning rink of the afternoon went to Dave Edwards, Ellen Livett & Tony Brindley who were 9-1 ahead after 5 ends and from there they went on to win 25-10. Sheila Holland, Tom Holland and Ann Richardson fought back well in their game coming back from 9-1 down and then 18-15 down to win 19-18, with both teams picking up a 6 from 1 end. June Redding, Roy Richardson & Denzil Ashcroft had an afternoon to forget as they only won 6 ends in a game that they lost 22-7.

22nd September 2018 – Hazells v Long Crendon – Mixed Friendly - Home – Lost 77-72

This afternoon we welcomed Long Crendon for what turned out to be a close game, although cut short due to the weather. Carol Crick, Rob Stanbury & Roger Crick got off to a slow start and dropped 2 4’s in the first 7 ends to find themselves 10-4 down and despite managing to get themselves back level at 11-11 after 12 ends they only picked up 1 more shot in the game, losing 21-12. Sheila Lawlor, Sid Brotherston & Denzil Ashcroft were involved in a close game and there was only 1 shot in it after 10 ends however the visitors finished the stronger, winning 15-8. Ellen Livett, Ann Ramsay & Andrew MacKenzie lost the 1st 6 ends, dropping 14 shots in the process however they then started to fight back but this was going to prove too big a deficit to overcome and they eventually lost 21-14. Teresa Newman, Josh Henly & Mark Newman picked up a 5 & 4 in the middle of their game to take a 7 shot lead and they managed to hold on for a 17-10 win. Highest winning rink of the afternoon went to Barbara Ramsay, Matthew Crick & Ian Ramsay courtesy of their 21-10 win.

16th September 2018 – Hazells v Thame – Mixed Friendly – Home – Won 101-59

This afternoons friendly against Thame turned out to be a rather one sided affair with Hazells winning on all 5 rinks. Rob Stanbury, Pete Coyne & Brian Abigail got off to a great start going 10.3 ahead after 6 ends and from there they held on to the lead throughout the game, although by the 12th end they were just 1 shot ahead 12-11. They went on to win 20-13. Sheila Lawlor, Karen Seegoolam & Denzil Ashcroft looked good for highest winning rink after 10 ends as they were leading 15-1 however Thame then started to get back in to the match, picking up 11 shots from 3 ends. We managed to hold on for a 19-15 win.Norman Bonham, Kim Challinor & Gerry Moores got off to a great start picking up 7 shots from the 1st 3 ends and they were 12-7 ahead after 10 ends however they then dropped 7 shots over the next 2 ends and the scores were level at 16-16 going in to the final end and we managed to pick up the winning shot in that end. Jack Pipe, Teresa Newman & Mark Newman picked up highest winning rink today as they only lost 4 ends and only 1 shot on each of those as they won 25-4. Andrew MacKenzie, Sid Brotherston & Ann Richardson also got off to a great start as they took a 14-1 lead after 8 ends and again the win was never in doubt as they went on to win 20-11.

15th September 2018 – Hazells v Princes Risborough – Home Friendly – Won 89-68

This afternoon’s game saw a mixture of rinks and triples as Princes Risborough weren’t able to field a full team and so Sid & Rod kindly offered to help out. Sid put on a performance to show Steve he should have played for Hazells as his rink beat Kishore Seegoolam, Karen Seegoolam, Matthew Crick and Paul Rogers 27-21. Inger McNeill, Denzil Ashcroft & Steve McNeill lost the 1st 5 ends in their game to go 7-0 down however they then picked up a 6 the next end to get back in to the match and they picked up a 3 the next end to take the lead and from there they never lost the lead again, winning 19-17. Judy Rogers, Andrew MacKenzie & Roger Crick picked up highest winning rink, mainly thanks to the 1st half of the game where they took a 16-3 lead and although the visitors then won 4 ends in a row to close the gap we picked up a further 8 shots from the last 4 ends to win 24-11. Eddie Justice, Anne Farmer, Carol Crick & Brian Abigail picked up a 6 on the 1st end and a 5 on the 5th end to take a 13-3 lead and from there they went on to win 25-13.

14th September 2018 – Hazells v Leighton Buzzard – Floodlit Friendly – Away – Won 70-42

This evening 3 triples went to Leighton Buzzard for a floodlit fixture and despite some early rain in the game this turned out to be another enjoyable evening in interesting conditions. Kishore Seegoolam, Rob Stanbury & Pete Coyne played out a close game with the lead switching hands on numerous occasions and so it was probably fair that this game ended in a 17-17 draw. Karen Seegoolam, Carol Crick & Roger Crick were 4-3 ahead after 5 ends however they then picked up 12 shots from the next 3 ends and despite dropping 2 3’s they went on to win 25-13. Kim Challinor, Daniel Watkins & Andy Watkins went behind early on in their game but once they had come to terms with the different conditions they picked up a 5 & 4 from 2 ends to take the lead and from there they went on to win 28-12.

9th September 2018 – Hazells v Wing – Friendly – Won 80-73

This afternoon’s game at Wing was a close match with some great bowls from both sides. Sheila Lawlor, Roy Richardson & Mark Newman were in control of their game for most of the match and then on the 14th end they dropped a 6 to let Wing back in to the game and despite picking up 2 shots the next end we then lost the last 3 ends to draw 17-17. Ann Ramsay, Kim Challinor & Steve McNeill were involved in a close game however it was the hosts that just held on for a 17-15 win. Teresa Newman, Denzil Ashcroft & Ann Richardson picked up 8 shots from the 1st 4 ends to take control of their game and they went on to win 18-14. Karen Seegoolam, Rod Bacon & Jan Moores had to come from behind in their game on a couple of occasions and with 3 ends to play they were 13-9 down however we won the last 3 ends to win 15-13. Kishore Seegoolam, Andrew MacKenzie & Gerry Moores were always in front in their game although this was still a close match which we won 15-12.

8th September 2018 – Hazells v Houghton Regis – Away – Won 96-84

This afternoons fixture at Houghton Regis has always been a popular fixture and today was no different. We are always given a great welcome and despite this being a friendly it is always a competitive match, played in the right spirit. Unfortunately this afternoon there was a mix up in terms of the format so we ended up playing a mixture of Trips & Rinks. Kim Challinor, Matthew Crick, Ian Ramsay & George Murdoch took an early lead however the hosts managed to get in to the lead and were 15-11 ahead after 15 ends however we then picked up 7 shots over the next 4 ends to go 17-15 ahead only to drop 5 shots over the next 2 ends and the game finished in a 20-19 defeat. Barbara Ramsay, Daniel Watkins, Denzil Ashcroft & Mark Newman also had to come from behind in their game however by the 13th end they were 16-11 ahead. The hosts then won the next 4 ends to bring the scores level with 4 ends to play and we managed to edge the game 18-17. Judy Rogers, Carol Crick & Andy Watkins were 9-4 down after 9 ends however they then picked up 8 shots over the next 3 ends to take lead and with 3 ends to play were still 17-14 ahead however we then dropped 5 shots over the last 3 ends to lose 19-17. Teresa Newman, Andrew MacKenzie, Josh Henly & Steve McNeill led from the start in their game and they went on to win 18-13. Eddie Justice, Inger McNeill & Paul Rogers got off to the perfect start picking up 8 shots from the 1st 2 ends and despite winning only 10 of the 21 ends they managed to earn a 24-15 win.

4th September 2018 – Hazells v Waddesdon – Mixed Friendly – Home – Won 68-40

This afternoon we welcomed Waddesdon to Hazells and this turned out to be a comfortable afternoon for Hazells as we won on all 4 rinks. Eddie Justice, Ann Richardson & Brian Abigail started slowly however by the 10th end they managed to take the lead, 8-7, and from there they went on to win 18-9. Dave Day, Terry Root & George Murdoch picked up a shot on each of the 1st 5 ends however 5 ends later they were 7-6 behind. They then picked up 7 shots over the next 5 ends and went on to win 13-11. Dave Wheeler, Sid Brotherston & Gerry Moores earnt the highest winning rink courtesy of their 20-8 win. Roy Richardson, Rob Stanbury & Eddie Chanell were looking certain for highest winning rink after 7 ends as they were 13-0 ahead however the visitors then won the next 5 ends to get the score back to 13-10 however we then managed to win a couple more ends to relieve the pressure and went on to win 17-12.

FINALS WEEKEND

What a fantastic Finals Weekend we witnessed last week and I would like to pass on my thanks to all those that took part, either playing in the great games or just coming along to give the players your support. This season saw more members taking part than in recent years and a higher number of different winners which just goes to show how much we are improving as a club. The weekend got off to a fantastic start  on Friday evening with the Open Handicap Singles match between Teresa Newman & Rob Stanbury. This started off as a close game however Rob picked up 6 shots across 3 ends to take a 15-8 lead however Teresa put up a great fight and the scores were level at 15-15 and then 17-17 before Rob managed to pick up the 4 shots he needed for a 21-18 win. Saturday morning saw the family battle between Matthew & Roger Crick in the Men’s Two Wood and this too was a close game. Roger took the early lead to go 5-1 ahead however Matthew then won the next 5 ends to go 8-5 ahead. Roger went on to take a 16-11 lead with 3 ends to go and despite dropping 3 shots over the next 2 ends he held on to win 17-14. In the Men’s Pairs Rob Stanbury & Eddie Chanell were playing Pete Coyne & Paul Rogers. Paul & Pete got off to a great start picking up 9 shots in the 1st 3 ends however by the 10th end they were just 11-10 ahead. However they then extended their lead and were 22-15 ahead with 2 ends to go and this turned out to be just too big a gap for Rob & Eddie to come back from, although they did pick up 4 shots from the last 2 ends, losing 22-19. The Ladies Pairs was a game of 2 halves with Ellen Livett & Inger McNeill only winning 2 of the 1st 7 ends which saw them 12-2 down against Michelle Higgs & Teresa Newman. However the tide the turned and by the 19th end Ellen & Inger were 19-16 ahead. They then dropped a 4 to go 1 down with 2 to play. By winning 1 shot on the 20th end it meant that the 21st end would be the decider and this couldn’t have been a closer finish however Ellen & Inger managed to pick up the all important shot to win the match 21-20. Saturday afternoon saw some more great games although none of them were quite as close in terms of the final scores. In the Ladies Two Wood Anne Farmer got off to a great start, winning 8 of the 1st 10 ends to take a 10-2 lead and in the 2 wood format this proved too big a deficit for Ellen to overcome and the match finished with a 15-7 win to Anne. The Ladies Handicap Singles was a rather 1 sided affair with Carol Crick struggling to come to terms with the green and it took Teresa Newman just 12 ends to win the match 21-1. In the Ken Vincent Trophy Paul & Judy Rogers were playing Andy & Daniel Watkins and it was Andy & Daniel that started well picking up 8 shots from the first 4 ends however Paul & Judy then started to find their line and they picked up 23 shots over the next 11 ends to take a 23-10 lead after 13 ends. From there they went on to win 32-15. In the final game of the day Dave Wheeler, Matthew Crick & Ashley Dean played Kim Challinor, Gerry Moores & David Logan in the Mixed Triples and it was Dave, Matthew & Ashley that came out on top winning 20-15. Sunday morning saw 4 great games being played with Ian Ramsay & Ellen Livett playing Judy Rogers & Andy Watkins in the Colchester Memorial. This is the fixed jack competition which encourages draw bowling where the 4 closest woods scores points. This was a close game and after 12 ends there were just 4 points between the teams however Judy & Andy finished the stronger and won the match 94-66. Rob Stanbury, Gerry Moores & Mark Newman were playing Norman Bonham, David Logan & Brian Abigail in the Men’s triples and this was a close game throughout and with 2 ends to play Norman, David & Brian were 15-12 ahead and holding shot wood. Mark decided to fire with his last wood and although it started off target it deflected off an outside wood and took the shot bowl clean out of the head and they went from being 1 down to pick up an 8 and go 20-15 ahead with just 1 end to go. Despite the fortune of the wood they had won more ends throughout the game and picked up a further 2 shots on the last end to win 22-15. In the Open Singles Alan King picked up 1 shot on the 1st end against Teresa Newman and then went on to lose the next 7 ends to go 10-1 down. From here the 2 players were trading shots almost every end however it was Teresa that went on to win 21-13. In the Men’s Handicap Singles Roger Crick had to give Pete Coyne 4 shots and this game provided some excellent ends of bowls with both players playing at the top of their game. Between them there was only 1 end that was won with a shot that was outside of a yard from the jack and most ends saw shot wood within inches of the jack. After 16 ends the scores were level at 10-10 however Roger then managed to get in to a 20-13 lead after 22 ends however despite needing just 1 shot Pete kept up the pressure on Roger, winning the next 4 ends to get the score back to 20-17 however Roger managed to pick up the final shot required to win the match. The Sunday afternoon matches saw the Men’s, Ladies & Novice Singles and these were also 3 great games. In the Novices Josh Henly played David Logan and despite the scoreline seeming to suggest that this was a 1 sided final it was a much closer match as Josh Henly played some great bowls but just couldn’t get the better of David who won 21-6. The Men’s Singles saw Paul Rogers take on Brian Abigail and this was a close game for much of the match with Paul taking the early lead only for Brian to get the scores back to level at 10-10 after 14 ends. Brian then managed to get in to the lead and started to put the pressure on and picked up 9 shots over 4 ends as he went on to win the match. Congratulations Brian and good luck next season representing Hazells in the Champion of Champions competition. The Ladies Singles was an amazing game which saw Ann Richardson take a 17-4 lead against Teresa Newman however Teresa hasn’t achieved the singles success that she has enjoyed over the last few years without having that fighting spirit and by the 22nd end the scores were level at 19-19. Teresa then picked up 1 shot on the next end to go 20-19 ahead however despite only winning 1 of the last 10 ends Ann too showed some fighting spirit and she picked up 2 shots on the next end to win 21-20. Congratulations to Ann and good luck to you in next seasons Champion of Champions competition.

30th August 2018 – Hazells v Princes Risborough – Away Friendly – Won 85-80

This afternoon we sent 5 triples to Princes Risborough for some last minute practice for our finals weekend. June Redding, Ellen Livett & Andrew MacKenzie put themselves under pressure from the start dropping a 7 on the 2nd end however by the 9th end they were getting back in to the match and were just 12-9 behind and from there they continued to eat in to the hosts lead and by the 16th end they had managed to get in to a 17-15 lead and they held on to win 18-16. Sheila Lawlor, Rod Bacon & George Murdoch controlled their game from the start and lost just 6 ends in the game on their way to a 19-11 win. Dan Livett, Dave Wheeler & Anne Farmer got off to a slow start dropping 6 shots from the 1st 3 ends however they then managed to get back in to the game and were actually 11-6 ahead after 9 ends however the hosts then got themselves back in to the game and went on to win 17-14. Carol Chanell, Karen Seegoolam & Sid Brotherston had a tough afternoon, only winning 7 ends, which saw them lose 22-12. Kath Cowan, Kishore Seegoolam & David Logan got off to a great start picking up 12 shots from the 1st 5 ends and despite losing 3 of the next 4 ends the game never looked in doubt, even when they dropped a 5 late on, as they went on to win 22-14.

27th August 2018 – Club Fun Bowl  - Aussie Pairs

With the International Tournament cancelled on Saturday and the Potten End Friendly on Sunday due to the weather we held a fun bowl on Monday. With 20 members turning up we played an Aussie Pairs Tournament with each pair playing 3 games of 7 ends and the 2 teams with the highest number of points after the 3 games would play in the final. There were some great games played this afternoon however the final saw Daniel Watkins & Ann Ramsay take on Rob Stanbury & Sid Bortherston in the final. This was an excellent game which saw Ann & Daniel lead by a shot going in to the last end however Rob manage to pick up the jack and take it back behind the head, making it difficult for Ann & Daniel to get back in. Sid & Rob picked up the 1 shot to force an extra end and they then went on to win the match.

Thanks to those of you that came along and supported the event and I hope that you all enjoyed the afternoon.

26th August 2018 – Hazells v Potten End – Match Cancelled due to Weather

19th August 2018 – Hazells v Cheddington – Won 90 - 52

This afternoon we sent 5 mixed triples to Cheddington for a friendly which saw us pick up another good win. Sheila Lawlor, Ian Ramsay & Paul Rogers got off to a slow start and although they were getting back in to the game they picked up a 7 on the 12 end to take the lead and went on to win 19-11. John Hamilton, Kishore Seegoolam & Rod Bacon got off to the better start going 5-0 ahead after 4 ends however Cheddington then got back in to the game and this remained close throughout with the scores level at the 11th, 13th & 15th ends however we ended losing by 1 shot, 11-10. Judy Rogers, Daniel Watkins & Andy Watkins had the easiest of afternoons, winning the first 9 ends and they only lost 3 ends all game. They also picked up an 8 on their way to a 27-4 win. Teresa Newman, Anne Farmer & Mark Newman played out a close game, winning 18-15, despite dropping a 6 one end. Karen Seegoolam, Alan King & David Logan took the early lead in their game and always remained in control as they won 16-11.

18th August 2018 – Hazells v Bicester – Won - 100 – 64

This afternoon we were looking to bounce back following last week’s thrashing at Flackwell Heath and made the trip to Bicester knowing that this could be a tricky afternoon as their green hasn’t always been one of the better ones we play on. Judy Rogers, Andrew MacKenzie and George Murdoch got off to a great start going 9-0 ahead after 4 ends and they continued to control this match throughout, even though they did drop a 7 late on, however they won 27-14. Teresa Newman, Denzil Ashcroft  & Roger Crick also got off to a great start on a challenging rink which the home side didn’t even want to play on. Although this was a relatively low scoring game we won 17-8. Sid Brotherston, Pete Coyne & Steve McNeill played out a close game on their rink taking an 8-4 lead before going 11-8 down. They came back again and going in to the last end the scores were level at 13-13 and Steve managed to get the shot to win 14-13. Anne Farmer, Dave Wheeler & Paul Rogers dropped a 6 on the first end and from there the found it difficult getting back in to the game and ended up losing 17-12.  Our highest winning rink of the afternoon went to Carol Crick, David Logan & Mark Newman who picked up a 5 on the first end and then a 6 on the 5th end and another 5 of the 6th end on their way to a 30-12 win.

8th August 2018 – BCBL – Week 7

In Division 2 both the Wunders and Cruisers were desperately looking for 3 points to help push them up the table and the Wunders were able to get a 31-9 win at home to Wing Arrows. However the Cruisers were at Princes Risborough and narrowly lost 14-12. In Division 4 the Seekers had a convincing 33-7 win at home to Wendover Warriors whilst the Hotshots suffered their first defeat of the season as they lost 21-14 away to Wing Wanderers.

7th August 2018 – Hazells v Tring – Mixed Friendly – Won 90 - 81

This evening we played one of our rare midweek evening friendlies at home to Tring. This is a popular fixture and we had 30 names down for this game which Mark a tough job in picking the 15 he needed for the game. Andrew MacKenzie, Tony Brindley & Gerry Moores were slow to get in to the game, going 7-1 down after 5 ends however they then managed to get back in to the game and were 15-14 ahead going in to the last end. Unfortunately they dropped a single shot to earn a draw. Len Tuffs, Josh Henly & Mark Newman played well in their game and only lost 6 ends during their 20-12 win. Judy Rogers, Denzil Ashcroft & Jan Moores were close in their game until they dropped 11 shots in 3 ends and they were then having to play catch up. Unfortunately they didn’t get back in to the game and lost 21-15. Leila Brindley, Kim Challinor & Paul Rogers were 8-4 down at the half way stage of their game however they then picked up a 7 which gave them the confidence boost they needed and they went on to take highest winning rink with their 28-13 win. David Day, Terry Root & George Murdoch struggled in their game and lost 20-12.

5th August 2018 – Hazells v Wing – Mixed Friendly – Home – Won 75-70

Sheila Lawlor, Judy Rogers & Mark Newman took an early lead in their game however they then lost 5 ends in a row to go from 5-1 ahead to 7-5 down but they then won the next 7 ends on their way to an 18-8 win. Josh Henly, Anne Farmer & Andrew MacKenzie were 8-3 ahead after 8 ends however they only won 1 more end in the match, losing 17-9. Leila Brindley, Kishore Seegoolam & David Logan had a tough afternoon and the 5 they picked up on the 17th end only helped to reduce the deficit as they lost 23-10. Ann Ramsay, Denzil Ashcroft & Brian Abigail started their game well and were 12-4 ahead after 12 ends however they then lost the next 5 ends and the scores were level at 12-12 with 2 ends to go. They won those 2 ends to win 17-12. Karen Seegoolam, Tony Brindley & Paul Rogers picked up the highest winning rink of the afternoon courtesy of their 21-10 win.

4th August 2018 – Hazells v Buckingham West End – Away – Lost 130 - 123

This afternoon’s game at Buckingham turned out to be a high scoring defeat with more than 40 shots scored on 5 of the 6 rinks. Dave Edwards, Pete Coyne & Steve McNeill knew they were in for a tough afternoon when they dropped a 5 on the first end and although they managed to win 7 ends they still lost 30-14. Sid Brotherston, Josh Henly & David Logan were in control of their game throughout and when they picked up 14 shots in 4 ends this was going to be a question of how big the winning margin would be. It turned out to be a 33-16 win. Geoff Knott, Anne Farmer & Roger Crick played out a very close game although when they picked up a 6 on the 14th end to take a 20-11 lead it looked like this would be another winning rink for Hazells however they then dropped 8 shots in the next 2 ends but managed to hold on for a 21 – 21 draw. Norman Bonham, Carol Crick & Paul Rogers had an afternoon to forget and even the half time tea didn’t help as they picked up just 4 shots in the game, losing 38-4. Sheila Lawlor, Daniel Watkins & Mark Newman picked up 10 shots in the first 4 ends and went on to win 25-10, losing just 5 ends in the game. Kath Cowan, Denzil Ashcroft & Andy Watkins were 6-3 down after just 3 ends however they went on to win 8 of the next 9 ends to go 23-7 ahead on their way to a 26-15 win.

3rd August 2018 – Hazells v Wendover – Adams Cup Away – Lost 113-99

This evening we took a 6 shot lead to Wendover for the 2nd leg of this years Adams Cup. Ann Ramsay, Karen Seegoolam, Inger McNeill & Mark Newman struggled this evening, winning just 6 ends in their game which they lost 26-11. Dave Wheeler, Roy Richardson, Josh Henly & Keith Harper were involved in a much closer game and although they were 16-14 down with 3 ends to play they won those ends to win 18-16. Leila Brindley, Andrew MacKenzie, David Logan & Steve McNeill started slowly losing the first 4 ends however they slowly got back in to the game and when they picked up a 5 on the 8th end they took the lead, which they held until the 19th end when they dropped a 3 and went on to lose 18-14. Judy Rogers, Kim Challinor, Ian Ramsay & Brian Abigail struggled to come to terms with the green in their game, winning just 5 ends in their 27-7 defeat. Kath Cowan, Tony Brindley, Alan King & Roger Crick took a while to come to terms with the green and were 10-6 down after 11 ends however they then picked up 9 shots over the next 3 ends and went on to win 25-14. Kishore Seegoolam, Carol Crick, Ann Richardson & Paul Rogers started well in their game and were 15-2 ahead after 9 ends and they continued to control the game throughout as they went on to win 24-12. Unfortunately the final score over the 2 games was an 8 shot win for Wendover.

28th July 2018 – Hazells v Leighton Buzzard – Won 94 – 65

This afternoon Karen Seegoolam, Andrew MacKenzie and Pete Coyne got off to an unbelievable start in their game picking up two 8’s in the first 2 ends, although we won’t ask who didn’t learn their lesson from the 1st end to miss out on a Hot Shot twice in 1 afternoon. By the 6th end they were 21-0 ahead and although they lost 5 ends in the game they won 32-7. Ann Ramsay, Sid Brotherston & Denzil Ashcroft dropped a 4 on the 1st end however they soon got back in to the game and when they picked up a 5 they took a lead that they wouldn’t give up, winning 22-17. Carol Crick, Matthew Crick and David Logan got off to a great start and were 11-2 ahead after 5 ends however they then dropped 13 shots over the next 4 ends and having gone behind they were never able to get back in front, losing 23-19. Kishore Seegoolam, Rob Stanbury & Ian Ramsay took the early lead in their game and were always in control although they did drop 7 shots in the last 2 ends which made the score closer than the game suggested, winning 21-18.

22nd July 2018 – Hazells v Long Crendon – Mixed Friendly – Away – Lost 90-61

I think that for most of our bowlers who made the trip to Long Crendon this afternoon they would probably not want me to give a report of the game and so all I will say is that we lost on all 5 rinks, although we did finish within 3 shots of Long Crendon on 3 of the rinks.

18th July 2018 – BCBL – Week 4

In division 2 the Wunders were at Aston Clinton and they had a tough night losing 22-13. In the same division the cruisers were looking to get their season underway, having lost their first 2 games, however their disappointing start to the season continued tonight as they lost 15-12 at home to Wing Arrows. In division 4 the Seekers were playing the Hotshots and with neither team having lost yet this season it was going to be a tight game which ended up in a 13-13 draw.

11th July 2018 – BCBL – Week 3

With the England World Cup match on many of tonight’s games were postponed however Hazells Seekers arranged an early start for their game against Wing Wanderers and this was to be a great decision as they won 23-12 to get their 2nd win from 2 games this season and they now play the Hotshots next week, who have also won their 1st 2 games so this should prove an interesting match next week.

This afternoon we took 6 triples to Bletchley St Martins looking to repeat the win we had at home earlier in the season. Maureen Warwick, Ann Ramsay & Pete Coyne took an early lead however they then dropped a single shot on each of the next 7 ends to go 8-3 down after 10 ends however a great finish saw them win 15-10.
