Match Reports

2nd October 2022 – Hazells v Buckingham West End – Friendly – Away – Lost – 101 - 68

Although this game was originally fixtured as 6 rinks it was reduced to 5 triples at Buckinghams request, which helped us as we too were struggling for players. However thanks to all of you that offered to play and although the result didn’t go our way I hope that you enjoyed the last away game of the season. Gill, Norman Garrett & Eddie were the only winning rink for Hazells this afternoon and having won the first 10 ends to take a 16-0 lead their hosts didn’t give up and started to get back in to the game, picking up a 5 on the 13th end however it was too big a deficit to recover from and we won 21-11. Linda, Norman & Pete also go to off to a good start however 2 bad ends in a row where they dropped a 5 on each end put them under pressure and they eventually lost 21-14. Lisa, Steph & Joan had a tough afternoon winning just 6 ends during their game and they ended up losing 25-9. Maureen, Marion & Tony had an equally tough afternoon dropping a 5 & 4 fours during their game and they ended up losing 27-9. Margaret, John & Anne took the early lead in their game however they then went on a run of 11 ends where they only won 1 end and were 17-8 down with 2 ends to go. They then picked up 9 shots from the last 2 ends to finish just 2 shots behind, 17-15.

1st October 2022 – Hazells v Chalfont St Giles – Friendly – Home – Won 97 - 90

This afternoon we played out a close game at home to Chalfont St Giles. Lily, Richard & Joan also took the early lead in their game and they remained in front throughout the game although they did lose the last 5 ends but never dropped more than a 2 and they held on for a 14-12 win. Linda, Ann Ramsay & Ann Richardson picked up 5 shots from the 1st 2 ends and they too never lost the lead and despite both teams winning 9 ends each we won 20-13. Roy, Anne & Dave struggled to stay in touch in their game and despite picking up a 6  on the 14th end they lost 24-13. 25th September 2022 – Hazells v Tring – Friendly – Home – Won 88 - 49

Todays game was reduced to 4 triples as Tring were unable to bring the expected 5 triples and this turned out to be a comfortable afternoon for Hazells. Ann Ramsay, Norman Bonham & Roger were 12 – 5 ahead at the halfway stage and they continued to dominate the game and went on to take highest winning rink courtesy of their 27-9 win. Maureen, Rod & Andrew started their game well and were 1O – 4 ahead after 8 ends however they then dropped a 5 which appeared to give the Tring triple a boost and they turned the match around and went on to get a 17-14 win for Tring. Lisa, Ellen & Carol lost 3 of the first 5 ends however they then started to get in to the game and only lost 3 further ends during the match and they went on to win 21-11.

18th September 2022 – Ray Keen League Finals

On Sunday we hosted the semi-final and final of the Mens Benevolent Triples and the semi-final and final of the Ray Keen League. Unfortunately our team had to withdraw from the Benevolent Triples however the Hazells Hotshots were playing in the Ray Keen League finals. The Hotshots reached the finals in their first season in the top division and congratulations go out to the team of Liz Goodchild, Dave Wheeler, Pete Coyne, Matthew Crick, Carol Crick & Roger Crick in winning the Central League title. They then got a bye through the preliminary round and were drawn against Newport Pagnall in the semi-final and this was a tough match which saw Newport progress to the final courtesy of their 20-7 win.  The Hotshots then had to play Chandos Park in the 3rd place play off and they put in a good performance and secured 3rd place with a 20 – 11 win.

17th September 2022 – Aussie Pairs

This afternoon we 17 of our members took part in this years Aussie Pairs competition, with Carol, Joan and Lily rotating their team during each game to avoid anyone having to miss out on the competition. The pairs were drawn and then split in to 2 groups and Roger & Karen won their 3 group games to qualify for the final and in the other group Marion & George won their 3 games to also reach the final. Unfortunately George and Marion could play the final so Carol & Lily took their places and this was a good game which Roger & Karen won.

11th September 2022 – Hazells v Wing – Friendly – Away – Lost 66 - 61

Unfortunately Wing could only provide 4 triples for the game today so we had to ask 1 of our triples to sit out of the match and thanks to Ann Richardson for taking on the captains role for this game. Following her highest winning rink yesterday Joan continued her great run of form and playing with Norman Garrett again and Ann Ramsay they picked up the same honour today courtesy of their 25-10 win. This afternoon we took 5 triples and a rink to Houghton Regis for another enjoyable afternoons bowls. As usual we were given a warm welcome and had a great afternoon, despite the result. Marion Garrett, Norman Handley, Kishore Seegoolam & Dave Wheeler took control of their game from the start and were 11-2 ahead after 9 ends and they continued to extend their lead until the last 3 ends where they dropped 9 shots but still ended up winning 16-14. Norman Garrett, Ellen Livett & Joan Sweetman were up against the Houghton Captain, Tony, and despite dropping a shot on the first 2 ends they then went on to win the next 6 ends, picking up 19 shots in the process and despite losing the next 3 ends they went on to pick up highest winning rink courtesy of their 26-9 win. Steph Rose, Karen Seegoolam & Ann Richardson struggled in their game, only picking up 2 shots from the first 9 ends however they managed to pick up 12 from the 2nd half of the game but still ended up losing 23-14. This morning we travelled to Olney Bowls Club for the semi final of this years Bucks Cup, a stage of the competition that we haven’t reached for many years.
