LATEST NEWS REPORTS

31st August 2013

Today saw the first day of this years Club Finals Weekend and there were some great matches on show during both sessions. In the morning session the ladies pairs saw Inger McNeill & Anne Farmer take a 12-5 lead after 10 ends however despite this deficit Ann Ramsay and Freya Spokes never gave up hope and then proceeded to pick up 14 shots in the next 4 ends to go 19 - 12 ahead. From there on they never looked back and went on to win the match 26-17. In the Mens Pairs it was Don Russell & Lionel Chesire who got off to a great start picking up 9 shots in the first 3 ends and despite a valiant effort from Matthew Crick & Tony Leone they were just unable to make up the deficit and ended up losing 23-19. The last game of the morning saw Roger Crick take on Ian Brown in the Open Singles. After coming runner up in last years competition Roger was looking to go one step further this year and despite dropping shots on the first 2 ends he soon recovered and went on to take a 20-7 lead. Ian started to make a come back bringing the score back to 20-15 it was Roger that picked up the vital last shot to take the match 21-15.

The afternoons session saw Eddie Chanell meet Fred Baldwin in the 2 Wood competition and having played each other in a seperate singles competition earlier in the season Eddie was looking to level the scores. Eddie took a 12-6 lead after 14 ends but Fred then started to put in some great shots and after 20 ends the score was 14 -13 to Eddie. With 1 wood left to bowl Eddie was 2 shots down and facing a surprise defeat following his start however a great last wood saw him take the shot and the match 15-13.  The Ladies Handicap Singles saw Maureen Warwick take on Janet Moores and with Maureen starting 3 shots ahead this was always going to be a close affair and that is how the game played out for the first 10 ends with Jan edging it 10-9. However Jan then started to find her line and went on to win the macth 23-13. The final game of the day saw Bruce Paterson, Jack Pipe and John Smith take on Neil Thompson, Norman Bonham & Brian Abigail in the Mens Triples. It was Johns team who took an early 5-0 lead however Brian's team then went on to win the next 6 ends to go 13-5 ahead. John's team then pulled 6 shots back over the next 2 ends only to then drop a further 6 shots over the next 5 ends. The final score was 20-12 to Brians team.

Well done to all bowlers today and a big thanks to all those of you that came along to support the first days play. Thanks also to Janet & Gerald Moores for umpiring today and to our markers today. This was a greats days bowls and we look forward to some more great matches tomorrow.

17th August 2013

This afternoon we welcomed Bicester Bowls Club to Hazels for what turned out to be an emphatic win for Hazells 133-79. With 5 of the 6 triples winning there was plenty of competition for the honor of highest winning rink and with an 18 shot advantage Andrew MacKenzie, Pauline Hobson & John Smith would have expected to take that honor. However it was Anne Farmer, Dave Edwards & George Murdoch with a 29-7 win that took the highest winning rink.

11th August 2013

This afternoon saw the return of club competitions with the Jubilee Shield. With 27 bowlers keen to take part the teams were drawn in to 2 groups with each team playing 3 games of 7 ends. Despite being a long afternoon there were some very close games to be seen and it was Brian Abigail, Anne Farmer & Sheila Lawlor who ended up winning 7-6 in the final against Ian Ramsay, Neil Thompson & Jack Pipe. Congratulations go to our first competition winners of the season and we now look forward to the Ladies Vi Trundell Quarter Final on Sunday followed by the American Tournament on the 24th August.

10th August 2013

This afternoon we made the return trip to Chandos Park and with the narrow victory last week fresh in our minds hopes were high that we could make it a double. Unfortunately these thoughts were soon a distant memory as we had only 1 winning rink, Ian Ramsay, John Smith & Carol Crick winning 22-12. Matthew Crick, Denise Boult & Roger Crick narrowly lost 17-15 however the other 3 games ended with heavy defeats for Hazells. The final match score was a 110 -69 defeat (our heaviest defeat of the season)

6th August 2013

This evening we sent 5 triples to our neighbours at Tring Bowls Club in what turned out to be a close fought affair. Hazells had 3 winning rinks with Maureen Warwick, Norman Bonham, & Brian Abigail winning 20-6, Yvonne Abigail, Reg Paul & Malcolm Hobson won 20-11 and John Simmons, Carol Crick & John Smith won 19-14. With the other 2 rinks going Trings way the final result ended up 81-72.

4th August 2013

This morning our men travelled to Waddesdon for their Bucks Plate Semi Final against Denham. For many this was their first game at Waddesdon this season however the welcome we received and the standard of the green was up to its usual high standards. Expectations were high in this match against unknown opposition and 3 of the 4 rinks got off to a great start. At the half way stage the match was all square with Hazells still retaining the lead on 3 rinks. Unfortunately fate took a turn for the worse as David James fell ill and had to be replaced by Jack Pipe, who was not prepared to play. With confidence rocked our lead in the other matches started to slip and we ended up just winning on the 1 rink of John Smith, Nick Griffiths & Brian Abigail. Thoughts now turn to our Ladies as they aim to progress 1 step further in the Vi Trundell when they too visit Waddesdon to take on Chesham.

This afternoon 4 triples ventured over to Wing for a friendly match and it was Hazells that once again returned with an 87-49 win. Highest winning rink went to Kim Challinor, Neil Thompson & Anne Farmer winning 28-5, closely followed by Len Tuffs, Norman Bonham & Maureen Warwick who won 24-7

3rd August 2013

This afternoon we welcomed Chandos Park to Hazells for the first of our games in a week as we will be sending a team back to their green next weekend. Following a heavy shower we got the game underway a few mins late and it was Hazells who got off to a great start leading on 5 of the 6 rinks at the break for tea. However it was the curse of the break that changed the game and although Hazells won 104 - 102 overall we only won on 2 rinks, drawing on 1 and losing on 3. Our highest winning rink this afternoon went to Ann Ramsay, Denise Boult & John Smith winning 29-15
