29th July 2014

We travelled to Wendover tonight for the 2nd round of the Bucks Knockout Cup and with virtually the same teams as the previous round we were hopeful of progressing through tonights match. Neil Thompson lost his singles match 21-13 although having been caught in traffic on the way he arrived and had to go straight on to the green and this probably didn't help. In the pairs Roger Crick & Steve McNeill were involved in a closely fought match with the sides level on 17-17 after 17 ends however it was the hosts that managed to win the remaining ends to finsih 23-17 winners and take 2 2nd point of the evening. Inb the triples Don Russell, John Simmons & Brian Abigail got off to a slow start and found themselves 19-10 down after 11 ends however a valiant fightback saw the teams level on 20-20 after the 18 ends. Under the rules of the competition there had to be a winner in each game and so they went in to a play -off end and again it was the hosts that got the winning shot. The final discipline saw Matthew Crick, Colin James, John Smith & George Murdoch get off to a great start picking up 12 shots in the first 4 ends. However they then only picked up 1 shot in the next 10 ends allowing the hosts a chance to catch up and like the triples the scores were level at 19-19 after 21 ends and another play off end was required. Similar to the triples it was Wendover who managed to win the end and therefore take the match winning all 4 events.

25th July 2014

The last game in this years Mid Bucks League saw us travel to Waddesdon knowing that only a convincing win would provide a chance of winning the league however the result was far from what was required. With all 5 rinks losing and an overall defeat 124-59 this was definitely a match to forget and we need to turn our attentions to Tuesday evening at Wendover.

17th July 2014

Back to Mid Bucks League action tonight at Princes Risborough and with 3 wins from 4 we knew that we would need a strong performance against a side that we have had mixed results against in the past. The evning got off to a bad start with one of our team not turning up until nearly half an hour late however the home side still allowed him to play and got on with the game without any issues so thanks go out to them for their understanding. Andrew Mackenzie, Thornley Bryant & Nick Griffiths got off to a good start and soon found themselves 6-2 ahead and despite losing the next few ends to trail 8-6 they then got back to winning ways and went in to the last end 21-19 ahead. With 1 wood to come from Nick and 2 shots down Nick managed to put a cracking wood up and take out the 2 shots and found himself then holding 2 shots and taking the first point 21-19.  On the next rink Matthew Crick, Keith Harper & George Murdoch lost the first 3 ends however taking 7 shots from the next 2 ends confidence was up and they soon found theselves 21-5 ahead, dropping just 4 more shots in the match they took the next point with a 25-9 win. Ian Ramsay, Gerry Moores & Roger Crick also got off to a good start picking up 5 shots on the 2nd end and from then on they continued to win ends and when they did drop an end it was only the 1 shot. This match saw Hazells earn their 3rd win with an 18-11 scoreline. Don Russell, Roger Kane & Brian Abigail also got off to a great start and won 10 of the 18 ends however the lack of a back wood cost them dear in the last end with the Risborough taking the jack back with his last wood to earn 6 shots for his side, resulting in a 19-16 loss for Hazells. In the final triple of the evening Colin James, Steve McNeill & John Smith found themselves 5 shots down after the first 2 ends and despite pulling 4 shots back in the next end they soon found themselves 17-8 down and getting none of the luck in the match. The game continued in this vein and the final result of this game was a 22-13 loss. However the overall match score saw Hazells win 95-80 meaning they took the match 8-2 and this sets up a crucial league decider at Waddesdon next Friday.

15th July 2014

Tonight we played our Bucks Knockout Cup Round 1 match at Bletchley St Martins in a format similar to the Top Club. Following his success in the County Unbadged Singlews competition Neil Thomson was handed the role of playing the singles and despite putting in a strong performance he found himself on the losing side against a very strong opponent. Next match to finish was the Fours with Matthew Crick & Colin James making exceptional debuts in the competition and earning praise from both sides and meaning that John Smith & George Murdoch found themselves in the enjoyable position of not being under pressure when it was their turn to bowl and the Fours levelled the game 1 -1. Then came the triple of Andrew MacKenzie, John Simmons & Brian Abigail and they too played a great game and took an early lead and never looked back with the home side struggling to keep in the match - 2-1 to Hazells. The final game to finish saw Steve McNeill & Roger Crick in the pairs. They got off to a good start taking an early lead and hanging on to it for the first half of the game. Midway through the game they dropped a dissappointing 4 shots and that seemed to give the home side the confidence and Steve & Roger soon found theselves just a couple of shots ahead. In a tense end to the match Steve & Roger found themselves 19-16 ahead and with just 2 woods to play they were holding shot. A great last wood from John Howlett of Bletchley saw the jack get taken back in the head and it was then 4 shots to Bletchley. With just his last wood to come, knowing that he had to get at least 2 shots back to avoid losing the game or having to play an extra end Roger held his nerve took the jack back and dropped just 1 shot giving a 19-17 win. This has meant we now play Wendover away in round 2.

11th July 2014

A week on from our bitterly dissappointing result at Cheddington we welcomed Aston Clinton to Hazells for match 4 in this seasons Mid Bucks League and we couldn't have asked for a better reaction. With Don Russell, Pete Spokes & George Murdoch winning 21-13, Colin James, Dave Edwards & John Smith winning 19-15, Andrew MacKenzie, John Simmons & Ian Brown winning 35-8 and Jack Pipe, Roger Kane & Nick Griffiths winning 25-13 we only dropped the 1 point due to a 22=15 loss from Gerry Moores, Thornley Bryant & Brian Abigail. The final result seeing Hazells winning 115-71 and taking a 9-1 points win.

4th July 2014

It was back to the Mid Bucks League tonight with a visit to Cheddington and with 2 wins from our first 2 matches we went in to the match hoping to reverse the Top Club result from earlier in the season and make it 3 from 3. Unfortunately we found their green hard to read and it was the home team that took the early lead and never looked back. Despite earning a draw on 2 rinks through Don Russell, Roger Crick & Eddie Chanell 16-16 and Andrew MacKenzie, Roger Kane & Peter Spokes finishing on the same 16-16 score. Unfortunately our other 3 rinks all lost meaning that we just picked up 1 point from this game leaving us with 3 games to play and a win in all games will be required to progress in the competition.

18th June 2014

Tonight was our last game in this years Bucks Cup and our final opponents were Wendover. In a game with no significance for Hazells the match ended up with a Wendover win 63-55, despite each team winning 2 rinks. Hazells 2 wins came from Fred Baldwin & John Smith

11th June 2014

This evening we were back in Bucks Cup action knowing that only a convincing win would be enough to keep any slender hopes of success in this years competition alive. AYlesbury Town were the opponents tonight and having won our recent MBL game at Aylesbury Town there was an element of anticipation for this match. Unfortunately the 2 home teams weren't strong enough to macth the strong teams fielded by Aylesbury Town and we lost both home games. Away from home we won 1 match and lost the other giving us a 3-1 defeat with an overall score of Hazells 55 Aylesbury Town 63

7th June 2014

So this seasons Top CLub match has come round again and it saw a repeat of last year when we travlled to Cheddington. Last season saw us win the match 3-2 and so we went in to the match confident that we could repeat, or even improve on last years result. The line up for both the Two Wood and Singles was a repeat from last year with Gerry playing Pete Rowlins and Roger Crick playing Steve Molnar. Last year saw these 2 results end up with a win for each team however this year it was Cheddington that got off to the better start winning both matches and taking an early 2-0 lead. In the other 3 matches Hazells got off to the stronger start and they seemed to be coping with the wet conditions better than their hosts. However once the raain stopped and the green started to dry out it was Cheddington who worked their way back in to both the pairs and triples and with a strong finish in both events they took a 4-0 lead. Hazells managed to avoid the whitewash with a slender win in the fours thanks to a good team performance from Steve McNeill, Nick Griffiths, Jack Pipe and George Murdoch.

4th June 2014

It was the next round of the Bucks Cup competition and tonight saw us take on Waddesdon Bowls Club in the 2 home & 2 away matches. Unfortunately our dissappointing start to this competition continued tonight with all 4 teams losing their matches. With the Waddesdon green only having 2 rinks available due to waterlogging Roger Crick, Nick Griffiths & George Murdoch got off to a great start taking a 6-0 lead after the first 5 ends however after 12 ends the game was level at 8-8 and it was Waddesdon that then went on to win the match 13-12. On the other rink Dave James, Ian Brown & John Smith found themselves 6-1 down after 5 ends however they also fought back to 9-8 down after 10 ends however it was Waddesdon who then took control of the game to run out 23-11 winners. At home Gerry Moores, Steve McNeill & Eddie Chanell got off to an early lead however the visitors then got back in to the match drawing 11-11 after 11 ends but the home side only picked up 2 more shots in the match, losing 22-13. In the final match Don Russell, Jack Pipe & Brian Abigail got off to a slow start and never managed to get hold of the game and ended up losing 20-9.

30th May 2014

Tonight the 2nd team took part in this years Club 2 Fours competition as we hosted 2 rinks from local rivals Wendover. Unfortunately Hazells got off to a slow start and despite showing some fighting spirit they went down on both rinks. So involvement in this competition rests with the A Team who now play Aylesbury Town and the date of this match will be announced shortly.

23rd May 2014

Tonight the first of our 2 Club Two Fours Teams travelled to Bletchley Town. Don Russell, Norman Bonham, Steve McNeill & Eddie Chanell got off to a dissappointing start dropping 5 shots on the first end however they didn;t let their heads drop and fought back well to take a 16-12 lead after 18 ends however unfortunately the game was to end just how it started with Hazells dropping 5 shots again and the game ended up 19-16. On the 2nd rink Andrew MacKenzie, Nick Griffiths, Roger Kane & Brian Abigail got off to a solid start findinbg themselves 8-1 up after just 5 ends. Although Bletchley did start to fight back with the score level after 12 ends however it was Hazells that regained the advantage losing just 2 more ends in the match and taking their game 20-14. This gave Hazells the overall win 36-33 so well done team and lets hope the 2nd team can follow your lead when they take on Wendover next Friday

21st May 2014

Tonight we started this seasons Bucks Cup Competition with 2 triples at home and 2 away. Having been promoted from the Bucks Plate last season we were looking to get off to a winning start. Don Russell, Jack Pipe & Brian Abigail got us off to a good start winning 19-10 and with Gerry Moores, Steve McNeill & Eddie Chanell loosing by just 1 shot, 19-10, it was over to the 2 home games to try and secure the win. Match of the night involved Dave James, Ian Brown & John Smith who found themselves 17-4 behind after 10 ends however just 3 ends later they then found themselves level, picking up 7 shots in just 1 end. They then went in to the last end 1 shot behing and picked up 2 shots to win their game by 1 shot. The final game saw Roger Crick, Nick Griffiths & George Murdoch lose 23-9 with the home side struggling to stay in the match. The final score of the match was 2 wins to each side but the overall win went to Wingrave with a 70-65 scoreline.

15th May 2014

Following Tuesday's win at Aylesbury Town we were soon back in action as we hosted Long Crendon for match 2 of this seasons Mid Bucks League Competition. Despite having to make several changes to the line up's for tonights match confidence was high that we could continue our positive start to the season. This optimism was well founded as Hazells went 1 better than Tuesday, winning on 3 rinks and losing on the other 2. Highest winning rink went to Roger Crick, Roger Kane & Brian Abigail with a 29-4 win, closely followed by Gerry Moores, Thornley Bryant & John Smith winning 26-10 and the 3rd winning rink went to Jack Pipe, Eddie Chanell & George Murdoch with a 25-18 score. These scores contributed to the 107 - 78 win for Hazells.  Well done team and good luck in your next match at Cheddington

13th May 2014

Tonight saw our mens team start this seasons Mid Bucks League Competition with a visit to local rivals Aylesbury Town. Recent history would see Hazells go in to the game as underdogs and with several bowlers making their MBL debuts for Hazells it was going to be important to get off to a good start. At the half way stage of the game Hazells were ahead in 2 games, behind in 2 and level in the 5th game and despite some exciting ends this was how the match finished. However the final score saw an overall win for Hazells earning their first victory over Aylesbury Town in recent history. With winning rinks from George Murdoch, Nick Griffiths & Roger Crick (27-10) and Tony Leone, Gerry Moores & Keith Harper (19-11) and Dave James, Don Russell & Ian Ramsay earning a 14-14 draw, although with just 2 ends to go they were 14-8 ahead, these scores helped to cover the 2 losing rinks. This victory gave us a 7.5 to 2.5 point win and we now look forward to our next match on Thursday when we entertain Long Crendon at Hazells

26th April 2014

The draws have now been made for this years National Competitions with us being drawn against Cheddington once again in this years Top Club. As for the Club 2 Four's we have 1 team drawn against Bletchley Town and the other team will be playing Wendover. Please keep an eye out for team selections and ensure that you are available for these matc hes.

16th February, 2014

Our participation in this years Slade Indoor Bowls Tournament followed the same path as in previous years with our 4 Triples all losing their matches against Stony Stratford. So as usual we have to put that one behind us and look forward to the outdoor season... if this rain ever stops !!!
