In a change to the usual time of the ladies friendlies this game was played at 6pm, meaning that some or our "workers" could play. The format was changed to 2 rinks to accomodate both teams and Ellen Livett, Nina Griffiths, Karen Seegoolam & Ann Richardson only lost 4 ends on their way to a 19-10 win. Teresa Newman, Kath Cowan, Judy Rogers & Kim Challinor were leading their game 15 - 7 after 13 ends however their oppostion then picked up 8 shots on the next 2 ends to level the game and this remained close for the next couple of ends until we picked up a 3 on the last end to win 19-16

Hazells v Wendover - Thursday 31st May 2018 - 6pm - Won 35 - 20

This year’s Trundell Trophy has taken on a new format moving to a single triple home & away rather than the rink.  Kim Challinor, Ellen Livett & Anne Farmer got us off to a great start with a convincing 23-9 win in the away match. At home Inger McNeill, June Redding & Teresa Newman were 11-11 going in to last end with Wendover holding shot and skips to play.  Inger played a great wood which took out the shot wood and sending the jack out in the open. Wendover then got the shot back only for Inger to play a great last wood to be holding shot and Wendover were unable to make their last wood count giving us the 12-11 win.

Hazells v Cheddington - Thursday 7th June 2018 - 6pm - Lost 36 - 30

This was the 2nd group game in this years competition and Ellen, Judy & Inger got off to a great start and led throughout their game. Going in to the last end they were 16-13 ahead although with just the 2 skips to play they were 2 shots down however with her 2nd wood Inger managed to pick the jack up and take it in to the ditch which all but won the end and the game. They managed to pick up 2 shots to win 18-13. In the away game Teresa Newman, Anne Farmer & Kim Challinor lost 23-13 which meant 1 win each but an overall loss for Hazells.

5th July 2018 – Hazells v Long Crendon – Trundell Trophy – Won 45-20

This evening our ladies went in to their last group game knowing that they needed to win both home and away to have a chance to qualify for the quarter finals, with all other teams having finished their games last week. At home Teresa Newman, Inger McNeill & Kim Challinor won 22-9. In the away game Judy Rogers, Ellen Livett and Anne Farmer also had a comfortable 23-11 win. The result meant that we finished in joint 2nd in our division however we have qualified courtesy of our better shot difference +23 than Cheddington +16. We will now face Woburn Sands away on the 4th August.

Top Club

1st Round - Aylesbury Town v Hazells - Sunday 20th May - WON 91-54

Our ladies started this season’s Top Club away to Aylesbury Town and although I haven’t been given the full details of the match Teresa Newman won her singles and Ellen Livett & Kim Challinor won the pairs. Karen Seegoolam, Sheila Lawlor, Judy Rogers & Inger McNeill lost the fours by a single shot and Anne Farmer, Ann Ramsay & Ann Richardson lost the triples by 2 shots however the convincing wins for the other 2 meant that despite winning 2 games each we went through on the overall score. We will now be playing either Waddesdon or Cheddington in the next round.

2nd Round - Cheddington v Hazells - Won 3-1

Following their win against Aylesbury Town in the last round our ladies went in to their Top Club looking to earn a place in the next round against Marlow and also go 1 better than the men who lost to Cheddington in the same competition. Teresa Newman had a tough match against Jackie Cootes however she fought through to get the 1st point with a 23-14 win in the singles. Ellen Livett & Kim Challinor took a great early lead in the pairs however the home side soon got back in to the game and were 2 shots ahead going in to the last end however Kim and Ellen played some great bowls under pressure to pick up the shots they need on the last end to get the 2nd point on the board. In the Triples Ann Ramsay, Judy Rogers and Inger McNeill had a comfortable win to get the 3rd and important point to earn the over win and place in the next round. In the Fours June, Anne, Carol & Ann fought back well after falling behind early on however were unable to get the 4-0 win from their game.

3rd Round - Hazells v Marlow - 30th June 2018 10am - Won 3-1

4th Round - Hazells v Stony Stratford - 3rd July 2018 - Won 69-66 (2-2)

In the singles Teresa Newman won 22-11 in the singles. Having won the previous 3 matches Ellen Livett & Kim Challinor unfortunately lost the pairs 25-11. Ann Ramsay, Judy Rogers & Inger McNeill won 20-10 in the triples and I the Fours Anne Farmer, Karen Seegoolam, Carol Crick & Jan Moores lost 20-16. This was a great win for the club and has seen them progress to the last 2 in the Bucks, Berkshire, Oxfordshire & Wiltshire division and they will play at home to either Tilehurst or Box BC, which will get them a step closer to Leamington.

5th Round - Hazells v Box BC - 26th July 2018 6pm @ Newbury Bowls Club - Lost 3-1

This evening our ladies travelled to Newbury Bowls club for their “Home” match against Box in the final divisional game of this year’s Top Club Competition before a potential Leamington Quarter Final. With Box BC coming from Wiltshire the game was moved to a neutral venue and Newbury BC kindly agreed to host the game. It was great to see so many of our members there and I am sure it helped the players, knowing that they had such great support. Teresa Newman put the 1st point on the board for Hazells courtesy of her 21-9 win in the singles. Unfortunately Ellen Livett & Kim Challinor were up against a very good pair and they had a tough game, losing 29-10, meaning we would either need to win both the Triples & Rinks or hope for a 2-2 draw and win on shot difference. In the triples Ann Ramsay, Judy Rogers & Inger McNeill started well in their game against another strong team and they kept this game close for most of the game however the Box triple finished the stronger, winning 25-10. In the rinks Anne Farmer, Karen Seegoolam. Carol Crick & Ann Richardson had the better of their opponents for the early part of their game and were 13-4 up after 11 ends however Box were gaining confidence from the scores on the other rinks and slowly got back in to the game and by the 15th end we were just 1 shot ahead, 14-13 and from there we didn’t pick up another shot, losing 19-14. This was a great game though and our ladies should be very proud of their achievements and I am sure that this experience will help them in future matches. Bring on Woburn Sands in the quarter final of the Trundell Trophy next week.
