TOP CLUB

Round 1- Hazells v Wendover - Away - Wednesday 11th May 2016 - Won 3 1/2 to 1/2

Round 2 - Hazells v Waddesdon - Away - Thursday 19th May 2016 - Drew 2-2 (Lost 74-72)

This evening the ladies travelled to Waddesdon for the 2nd round of this year’s Top Club competition looking to improve on the result in the same fixture last year when we lost all 4 events. Teresa Newman got us off to a great start playing some fantastic bowls on her way to a 21-12 win over former Hazells member Freya Spokes. Ann Richardson & Inger McNeill played a tough game in the pairs where luck just didn’t seem to go their way and despite a late fightback it was the Waddesdon pair that won the game.  In the triples Ellen Livett, Kim Challinor & Jan Moores started well however their luck turned in 1 end when they dropped 7 shots. Unfortunately they too were unable to turn the game back around and lost 28-13. In the Fours  Anne Farmer, Kate Griffiths, Denise Boult & Carol Crick led from the start and despite playing late in to the night in rapidly fading  light they managed to hold on for a win. With 2 games each it was Waddesdon that progress through to the next round with a 74-72 win on shot difference.

FRIENDLIES

26th April 2016 - Hazells v Wendover - Home - Won 35-21

Our first Ladies Friendly match was on Tuesday 26th against Wendover. As this came rather quickly at the start of the season and with the weather not promising to be very warm, it took a few phone calls to get eight ladies to play. Fortunately Wendover having had a full team had a lady pull out so we were able to play two rinks.

The rink with Nina Griffiths, Karen Seegolam, Anne Farmer and Jan Moores started off pretty even then by the tenth end Wendover had pulled away for a score of 4-13 but from then on Hazells came back not quite enough but within three shots for a final score of 14-17

The other Rink with Kate Griffiths, Sandy Hinton, Denise Boult and Ann Richardson again started very even but their game was the other way round. It was Hazells that pulled away with Wendover playing well but just missing out each end. So the final score on their rink was 21-4 to make the match a win overall by 14 shots.

Well done ladies a good start to the season.

Our next meeting with Wendover is in top club at Wendover on 11th May.

17th May 2016 - Hazells v Long Crendon - Home - Lost 32-31

The Captain from Long Crendon got in touch to say they only had six ladies down to play, fortunately we had ten that had put their names down so we lent them two ladies and on the day we played two rinks. Karen Seegoolam, Sheila Lawlor, Ellen Livett and Jan Moores had a slow start being seven shots down by the fifth end then gradually caught up by the eleventh end to be ten all to finally finish winning by four shots. Thank you to Nina Griffiths who played for the opposition on that rink. Kate Griffiths, Sue Morgan, Anne Farmer and Ann Richardson stated slightly better to be three up on the fifth end and also by the eleventh end were even on nine all but their fortunes turned the other way and Long Crendon steadily pulled away to end up winning by five shots. Thank you again to Sue Smith who played for the opposition.  So the overall game was lost by Hazells by one shot

25th May 2016 - Hazells v Cheddington - Home - Won 49-14

Jan Moores Captained the team for Ann as she was otherwise engaged. She certainly led from the front with her team of Ellen Livett and Karen Seegoolam, after a steady start they pulled away on the eighth end, winning 6 shots and progressed from there ending 32-6. Denise Boult with her team of Sheila Lawlor and Sue Morgan started well having scored 7 shots by the fifth end, before the opposition got on the board. They carried on in the same vein to another win 17-8. The third team, Sue Smith, Ann Ramsey and June Redding had a very level game finishing the victors by 1 shot. Well done ladies another good result.

14th June 2016 - Hazells v Aylesbury Town - Home - Lost 57-36

Sheila Holland, Sue Smith and Ann Ramsay started their game very steadily till the ninth end when they lost a four to go three down. They won a couple more ends to reach ten but the opposition pulled away for a final score of 10-23.

Sue Morgan, Sheila Lawler and Ann Richardson were 8-4 up at ten ends and stayed that four ahead through till the fifteenth end when they dropped five to end with a small win 15-13

Karen Seegoolam, Ellen Livett and Kate Griffiths were just 6-8 down at ten ends and were 11 all on13 ends. They then lost the last five ends to lose overall 11-21.

Despite the total loss 36-57 the ladies enjoyed their game and had a pleasant afternoon

22nd June 2016 - Hazells v Princes Risborough - Away

5th July 2016 - Hazells v Aston Clinton - Home

19th July 2016 - Hazells v Waddesdon - Home

11th August 2016 - Hazells v Long Crendon - Away - Cancelled

23rd August 2016 - Hazells v Aston Clinton - Away - Lost 40-23

This game was yet again this year played on one of the hottest days of the year. Consequently everybody was struggling so it was decided to call it a day on the twelfth end. The score reflected the temperature’s effect as we lost overall by 17 shots.

7th September 2016 - Hazells v Cheddington - Away - Won - 37-22

Both clubs could only get two triples to play this day due to other games and commitments. Ellen Livett, Ann Ramsey and Kate Griffiths had a steady even game till they were 11 all on the thirteenth end. Cheddington failed to get another shot and Hazells won 18-11. Sue Morgan, Sue Smith and Ann Richardson were 6 ahead on the eleventh end then faltered slightly till the 14 end when they picked back up and ended winning 5 on the last end to have a final score 19-11
